Sedation Dentistry
Anxiety or fear around the thought of visiting the dentist is common. It can get worse if you weren't planning on going to the dentist but are now in pain and need dental care as soon as you can get it.
For patients who have trouble sitting down in the dentist's chair, we have options to improve their dental experience.
At Burleson Endodontics, we make your comfort a priority throughout all stages of your appointment. We want our patients to be relaxed from the time they walk in the front door, and the team member at the front desk greets them to the time they spend in our comfortable dental chairs.
We never want patients' anxiety to keep them from getting the care they need. That's why we offer sedation dentistry options that can drastically improve the experience that patients have during procedures like root canals.
Nitrous Oxide
Also referred to as light sedation, we offer both nitrous oxide ("laughing gas") and oral conscious sedation in the form of a pill taken with water before the procedure begins.
These sedation methods leave the patient conscious for their procedure but significantly reduce their anxiety and reaction to the process.
Nitrous oxide won't leave any lingering side effects, and patients can drive themselves home from their appointment.
Conscious Sedation
This is a pill form of sedation that will keep the patient awake but will leave them much less alert, making the process much easier for the patient. Because the effects of conscious sedation linger for several hours, you will need someone to drive you home.
IV Sedation
Available by request, IV sedation is full sedation that will have the patient unconscious during the procedure. For this, an anesthesiologist will come in to provide sedation to the patient.
We generally recommend this degree of sedation only for patients with an extreme aversion to dentistry or low pain thresholds.
IV sedation requires the patient to have a ride home from our dental office because it will take several hours for the sedative to wear off fully, and it is not safe for the patient to drive.
Your Safety Is Our Number One Concern
Though these forms of sedation are considered safe, there are always inherent risks with all forms of sedation. Rest assured that we will thoroughly review your medical history and explain any risks beforehand.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have questions about the use of sedatives in your case; we are here to help inform you so you can make the best decisions for your health possible.
